I'm nineteen and going to university in September 2009. A combination of homeschooling and bulimia held me back a little. I'm going to go into music, hopefully to be an organist and choral conductor, but I would like to do some English as well.
My obsessions tend to fluctuate unpredictably, but at the moment I'm very into knitting, reading, cooking, Bones, and photography. Oh, and I'm vegan.
999 Book Challenge

American Literature
… because To Kill a Mockingbird is (I think) my favorite book, and I noticed that I had several other American books on my to-be-read shelf.
1. The Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger
2. The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
3. Netherland - Joseph O'Neill
4. The Secret Life of Bees - Sue Monk Kidd
5. To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
Bestsellers
… because who can resist all those shiny covers at the front of the bookstore?
1. Eat, Pray, Love - Elizabeth Gilbert
2. People of the Book - Geraldine Brooks
3. The Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kinslover
4. Twilight - Stephenie Meyer
Canadian Literature
… because I’m Canadian. I feel obliged to have this as a category.
1. A Complicated Kindness - Miriam Toews
2. The Jade Peony - Wayson Choy
3. The Robber Bride - Margaret Atwood
4. Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town - Stephen Leacock
Childhood Novels I Never Read
… because I feel guilty every time I look at the shelf of gorgeous, untouched books beside my desk. Most of these were birthday or Christmas gifts that I “grew out of” before I had time to read. Now that I’ve grown up enough to realize that I can’t grow out of children’s books, I think I’d better see what treasures are there.
1. Exodus - Julie Bertagna
2. The Golden Compass - Philip Pullman
3. Journey to the River Sea - Eva Ibbotson
4. Nory Ryan's Song - Patricia Reilly Giff
5. The Wanderer - Sharon Creech
From the Chapters Sale Rack
… because I have a weakness for all the 3-for-ten-dollars novels at Chapters. Also, I have a lot of heavy books in the other categories, and these tend to be easy reading.
1. Arlington Park - Rachel Cusk
2. Reading in Bed - Sue Gee
3. Solos - Kitty Burns Florey
Grab Bag
… because, well… isn’t it obvious?
1. Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand
2. Girls in Trucks - Katie Crouch
3. I Capture the Castle - Dodie Smith
4. Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Golden
5. The Story of San Michele - Axel Munthe
6. The White Tiger - Aravind Adiga
Nineteenth-Century Novels
… because who doesn’t love a good Austen novel? Also, there are some fairly classic classics that I really should read.
1. North and South - Elizabeth Gaskell
2. The Pickwick Papers - Charles Dickens
3. The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde
4. Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen
5. Wuthering Heights - Emily Brontë
Nonfiction
… because otherwise I’d probably read nothing but novels.
1. Diet for a New America - John Robbins
2. The Know-It-All - A.J. Jacobs
3. Reading the OED - Ammon Shea
4. Seven Years in Tibet - Heinrich Harrer
5. Three Cups of Tea - Greg Mortenson
6. Vegan: The New Ethics of Eating - Erik Marcus
Serial Books
... because these are usually light reading.
1. Déja Dead - Kathy Reichs
2. The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency - Alexander McCall Smith
